Why assignment of benefits matters
Many no-fault arbitration filings are brought by medical providers rather than the injured person. The provider generally needs a valid assignment of benefits or similar authority to pursue the unpaid bills as assignee.
In New York, DFS says that if a medical provider files for arbitration as assignee of the injured party, the provider must submit a completed No-Fault Assignment of Benefits Form with the injured party's signature.
